“On game day, I have a pack of Sour Patch Watermelon Kids. It started freshman year of high school when I wanted sugar before a game and Sour Patch Kids was in the school vending machine. It continued through high school but slowed down when I came here because I couldn’t find them that often. Finally, this year I found out the vending machines on campus have the candy so it’s going strong this year.”
What’s one thing most people probably don’t know about you?
“I was a vegetarian for six years. One day I was chewing on a piece of chicken and it was a chewy part and I was like, ‘Ew, what is this?’ and my dad said, ‘It’s probably a piece of cartilage.’ I just thought of my ear, the part the girls get pierced, and thought it was disgusting so I stopped eating meat that day. And then I came to college and they were concerned about me gaining weight and not being strong enough so I started eating meat again.”
What’s your favorite AU athletics memory?
“The relationship we created with [11-year-old] Kayla [Wenger whose battle with a rare form of brain cancer ended in 2012]. It was such a unique and meaningful experience. Also, the many nail parties we had and the other get together we had. It was a life-changing experience.”
