Coming to D.C. this weekend, Die Antwoord combines the futuristic sounds of EDM with traditional rap beats. Founded in Cape Town, South Africa, Die Antwoord consists of rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser who both break stylistic barriers. From their unique style to their alternative sound, this duo can never disappoint an audience.

Die Antwoord draws from the Zef movement, a South African counter-culture movement celebrating the trashy, alternative lifestyle of the white lower class within the country. Zef takes form in all sorts of ways, from style of dress to art.

Die Antwoord’s debut album, “$O$,” was released to international acclaim in 2010, as the group went off the beaten path stylistically and instrumentally. Their most recent release, “Mount Ninja and da Nice Time Kid,” includes hits such as “Daddy” and “We Have Candy,” while the music video for the song “Banana Brain” has received more than 12 million views on YouTube.

Die Antwoord serves as the perfect concert for anyone trying to experience rap in a whole new way. The group will perform at Echostage this Sunday. Doors open at 7 p.m. Get your tickets here.
